The new 'do

After coming home from the hospital (and not being able to wash my hair for 3 days) I decided that my long hair HAD TO GO! Mike and my mom lovingly washed my hair while I leaned over our bathtub for 4 days until I could finally take a shower- 7 days after my mastectomy. The amount of dead hair that come out during that first shower washing made me feel like a wookie was attacking me!

I immediately called my hairdresser Bernice at Diane's Salon and scheduled my pre-chemo cut. The best advice from my friends, doctors and family was to cut my hair as short as I can tolerate so it wouldn't be as traumatic when it starts falling out in massive hairy clumps.

So today I gave Bernice "free reign" to do whatever she wanted to do with my hair. This is the ONLY time I will ever allow this to happen. Usually I have to be baited in to the salon, and I only allow her to trim about 1 or 2 inches off. So today was fun for Bernice, but torture for me! In the end- I like my new cut. It's the shortest it's been in a LOOONG time, and when I looked down on the floor at all the hair she had cut off I could not believe it! Talk about a wookie.

Here's the results:

And just in case you don't know what the "before" was like (well, here's a July photo taken by Caitlin Domanico Photography):
