My Personal Livestrong Challenge

This August- I will be a THREE year breast cancer survivor.

2011 is also my FIRST cancer free, chemo free and surgery free year since 2008.

So to celebrate I am participating in not ONE, but TWO Livestrong Challenge 5K races. The first is in Philadelphia, PA on August 20, which is 2 days after my personal Survivor Day. The second is in Austin, TX in October.

Looking back on the past two (plus) years, I wish that I could have participated in Livestrong....or another event. My friend Kathie started Team F#@K Cancer in 2009 and participated to honor her husband who lost his battle with cancer.  She was kind enough to run in my honor in 2009 and 2010.

This year I am going to run by her side.

I cry each and every time I see this picture.

I created Team F#@K Cancer- East for the Philadelphia, PA Livestrong Challenge. It's the "sister" team of the Team F#@K Cancer based in Austin, TX. This is the year I move past being a "patient" and become a true survivor.

Yo Cancer! I'm gonna beat you down like Drago!

My Team goal is to have 15 members registered for the Philadelphia Challenge and raise $1,500. So far I have 2 members - me and Mike. So that leaves 13 people to recruit. And we have raised $0. So that leaves $1,500 to find. Granted- it's only March and the race is in August...so maybe I'm just being a neurotic planner. Want to join our team or donate? Click HERE.

As part of my personal fund-raising goal, I am creating a "Livestrong Collection" for The Diaper Bag Wrangler. All net proceeds from item sales will be donated to the Livestrong Foundation. I selected 2 fabrics for the collection and I am so excited to get them delivered and start working on everything.

All of the Diaper Bag Wrangler products will be available with these fabrics. That means headbands, kids aprons, womens aprons, zippered wet bags, link loop diaper bags and travel changing pads. The Collection will be posted through the Etsy Shop and the Website in April.

I missed out on ordering this fabric from the mill the first time around. So wasn't I just giddy when I came across a bunch of it this week. And even more giddy when a box containing 9 yards arrived on my doorstep today.

No more searching for diapers, wipes or essentials when you need them the
most. Our multi-purpose link loop diaper bag has a removable plastic ring which allows you to easily attach the bag onto your stroller, shopping cart, etc. It is
roomy enough to fit several diapers plus travel wipes and has a large sewn-on Velcro closure that adjusts for a full or "not-so-full" bag.

The back exterior pocket is handy for anything extra you need to pack but keep separate from the main pocket. You can also use this bag to keep snacks, small toys, change of clothes, or cosmetics contained.

Measures 9 3/4" H x 7 1/2" W (overall). Machine wash cold gentle cycle, line dry. Hot iron if needed, do not iron velcro. Remove the plastic ring before washing.

Here's the winner from our online fabric vote!
Red Snow Buds

We will have Aprons for dolls, kids and moms, plus headbands, baby booties and pj bottoms available for our Holiday Collection. The print is MUCH MUCH cooler than this little fabric swatch. You will love it...

Check out this adorable skirt and dress in the same fabric that I found from M.E.K.O. Kids on Etsy:

FAAABRIIIIICCC!!!!

Ohhhh Yay!!! Happy Day!!!

My fabric order from Westminster Fibers arrived! I was a little surprised because I didn't think it had shipped yet, so to see a HUGE box sitting on my doorstep was a BONUS! The box itself weighed 43 lbs, so hauling it inside was a task unto itself.

I just wanted to savor seeing all these beautiful fabrics. So I pulled out the pick slip and packing wrap, and started taking out the bolts, unwrapping them and setting them on my dining room table. Each bolt weighs a little over 5lbs with anywhere between 10-17 yards.

So as I'm unpacking, I notice that there's something missing... well, 3 somethings! Three of the fabric prints that I ordered did not ship. Bummer. One of them I REALLY needed for my aprons! I initially called in my order and it was cross checked for product availability, with everything being in stock. I don't know if it's a temporary out of stock issue or what- so I will have to call my customer service rep on Monday to find out. But all in all I am so giddy about all the new fabrics!

Eventually I carry everything down to the studio and get it all inventoried. I cut 5" strips for my sample swatches, and organize everything on my shelves.
